Anyone know what this is?

I was wondering what the block on the top of Travis Barker's bass drum hoop on the batter side. It looks like it might be wood with the sides painted black. is it just for hitting to keep time or something or does i do something sonically? never seen one before. cheers for any answers.

Dunno. Looks like it either is a percussive sort of item or it's used to hold one on.

Yea it's more or less a built-in wood block. Not crazy loud like an LP Jam block, but something more substantial that just playing the top of the bass drum rim.
