Thanks! :D
Aquarian makes great drum heads, but I think these are a little too open-sounding for me :(
I finally learned how to tune so they're sounding pretty good now nevertheless. :]

I'd prefer my own music room as we have a bunch of instruments in my house, but my parents decided to use one of the bedrooms as an exercise room... THAT THEY NEVER USE! Dx

my parents don't even let me have my drums in the house unless the weather is unbearably hot (I live in Arizona so that's about three or four months of the year)
I'm forced to keep the drums in the garage along with all my other musical instruments
and that makes recording a real chore

Nice kit! I've seen it so many times in video, but finally pictures!

And yes, I do stare at my kit right before I go to bed. I just like admiring it, drum sets are beautiful. If I had any nicer a set, I wouldn't be able to fall asleep!

Well, it gets really hot in my room due to the sun always shining my room's way, and I live in Florida, which is arguably just as hot as Arizona ;P

Or barely, that is...

It depends. UPS is good about that, and keeps their tracking well updated.

Fedex usually lets you know when it ships, but updates like, every week, so often, it'll get to my house before I even know it's in my area.

And USPS barely has a tracking system. Not that anyone uses that.

I took the pics about a week ago. Got the side snare 2 days ago second hand for $5!!!!! I decided to give it to my church because I don't really need 2 snares. I'mbring it home all the time though to fool around on.

The pork pie sounds great man! I got it for a ridiculous price too. $120! It was originally over $200...

The 20" AA MT Crash sounds amazing! You can hear it in this video on the right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M2J2lxjWw8

Thanks for the compliments. I've invested my life in to these drums. I'm hopefully gonna celebrate with a new Tama superstar hyperdrive before the new years in 2009 ;]!!

Actually, I'm about 5'9, and I usually do have them a little lower. I don't know why they were so high in this picture. I like them higher than the normal person, but not that high ;)

They actually are really open-sounding. In fact, my friend and I were at Guitar Center last year, and he was looking to buy new heads. I suggested the Studio-X's, because as the name implies, it would sound like a studio. That wasn't the case, although they still sound very good.

Wait a second.

Maybe I need to get my eyes checked , but aren't those the heads with pieces of foam on the edges to make them more of a thump rather then an "open sound"?

Maybe I am confused about what you mean by "open sound" whatever that IS.

Actually, they're not foam. I honestly don't know what the ring is made of, but it feels like just a piece of paper. I'm guessing it's for looks more than it's for sound, but I'm probably wrong.

The foam ring you're talking about is on the Superkicks...

The only thing that I don't get is how they don't sell one in black and red anymore...they're discontinued. And the series one that you have has the old 805 logo, which confuses me even more.

Nah, i've heard some, they really kill the drum sound. You sort of just get a toned "thump". Definetly not open. You want open, try an ambassador/diplomat or G+/G1 combo (or like i have an ambassador/G1 combo :p)

The performance IIs are the "thump" ones...Studio-X's are, as described by Aquarian:

Studio-X™: A clear, single ply, medium weight drumhead with a light weight muffle ring adhered to the underside. This helps to eliminate some unwanted high frequencies while still maintaining a warm open sound.

Maybe it's just the resos you have or the way you have them tuned. Like I said, my friend's kit has these heads, and they sound just like the description, and sound pretty nice. If only he wasn't using my old PDP stock snare drum head for his snare xD

DrewTheShoe
04-17-2009, 03:50 AM
Seems like those Studio-Xs should be like PS3s, being that they're both just heads with thin muffling rings on the bottom of them. If I were you, I'd try something different. Maybe an unmuffled single ply? Maybe a two-ply? Maybe some nice cardboard Hydraulics?

In other news, I really dig your kit. The one-up two-down combo has always been attractive to me, I just have never had the opportunity to have one... :(

Yes, they are. I've tried them and feel in love, but I tried them on a pearl masters so that might have influenced it. Such a great tone from them!
