When I was a senior in High School (26 Year ago) I did a speech in speech class on drum tuning. I simply disassembled a 12" tom and the first things I went through was describing each part of the drum, the hoops, lugs, lug screws, heads, and shell. Then I just went through a normal head installation and tuning and talked about what I was doing, while I was doing it. Simple!
I had the drum disassembled prior to my speech so I didn't have to waste time during the speech. I can't remember what the time limit was but I do remember that I got an A. This was the easiest speech I did for that class becuase I knew my topic well and had no problem talking about drums. As opposed to other speeches where I forced to learn and talk about topics that I couldn't care less about. I hope that helps you and best of luck on your speech.

Hi
You could also talk about different hand holds(ie french, german, matched, tradional....on and on)...all you need is a pair of sticks. Denis
