I've noticed a few posts recently about pay-to-play stuff and other things of that nature. I personally think that if you extend your borders a bit and become willing to travel a little further, there's no reason to ever have to play these kinds of shows if you don't want to. There're still tons and tons of promoters/venues out there that don't use these systems. Figured for all of us gigging/touring musicians on these boards, it might be helpful to have a thread for posting good promoters and venues. Sharing contacts for booking, etc. Just an idea.

I'll let someone else start.

My thoughts are that this is a good idea, but the thread (if it took off) would be ridiculous, and include a lot of info that, because of where we live/play, most of us couldn't use. I wonder if we could set up either a few stickied threads, or even a sub-forum, based on region, where we could do this. That would be AWESOME!

You make a good point. I hadn't really thought of that.

I third this! It'd be a great idea for new bands especially.

On a similar note, my band has been looking for some good bands to play 2 hour sets with, pretty much just us and 1 other band will play a club or venue. We are in the Boston area but wouldn't mind traveling if the shows were good. We're starting to get known in Boston too. We've just played with too many bad bands that have emptied clubs...

Anyways, if you're band is in Boston and am interested, send me a pm with a link to a demo. Our music is here... myspace.com/rocketrocketband
