Not much - a little video I made of an improvised solo. Been drumming a looooong time, but also play keyboards. Picked up my sticks again after a 15 year lapse (well, not completely). Anyways, I've been trying to knock the rust off and here's what I got:

hope it's halfway enjoyable.

Welcome, I'm fairly new here too and in a similar situation. I stopped playing about 10 years ago, and now I have an electronic set. You sound like you have some chops - unfortunately drum rolls don't seem to translate well to electronic drums and the way they sound. I'm just glad I have something to play on. What E kit are you using? I have a Roland TD 6 and its fine for playing along to songs and working stuff out but the toms don't sound too realistic similar to what you're playing. Also like you I got heavily into keyboard playing and you can hear my stuff here:

I also play guitar and am going to put it all together at some point. Will share my drumming when I get it ready, but it is a challenge making an electronic kit sound realistic. Good luck and keep on playing.

My bad, you did put the drum info in the YouTube heading...

Yeah, I'm using a combo of the DM5 Pro and Basic with a QS6.1 as the sound source out of the trigger io.

Checked out your MySpace - awesome stuff! I especially liked "Clav Avenue" - starts out reminding me of Billy Preston and moves into Herbie Hancock land a bit, too. Great stuff!

The sound quality is a bit crapped up in the video. The DM5 really does have a good set of pretty realistic sounding things. I try to tweak mine away from a true acoustic sound (otherwise I'd just get an acoustic set ;o) ). But I'm trying to venture into new territory (as in the alesis competition video I did)

Thanks for your comments on the keyboard stuff. I just sold my Roland XP-60 which made most of those sounds, but it bought the Roland TD-6 which I'm having a great time with and I still have a Juno-G and a strat to jam on.

Finally remembered my password and all. I put a few new ones up. Not looking to start any flame wars with my pro-electronic drums stance... ;o)

Sorry, I forgot to tell anyone where the new stuff is. No wonder I've only heard one complaint!!

I really thought it was great, think i might have seen a couple of your vids before mate. You might not be able to do that on an acoustic but i guess that's always the eternal debate isn't it? I do think it would sound slightly better if it was a bit more dynamic though i suppose.

Thanks for the kind words!

If you mean dynamic volume-wise: yeah, it's much more challenging playing loud and soft on the electronic kits. But I think that's just laziness: there are velocity curve settings for each trigger pad, but I tend to try to use technique, at least at this point. Mostly what I'm experiencing is the paradigm shift in technique. I'll experiment with sound and tweaking later.

But, as I've said elsewhere, you can't play an acoustic guitar like it was a Strat, so why shouldn't we push forward on the electronic drum front and stop treating them like the exception or red-haired step-child. They are a new, valid instrument in their own right. If someone wants acoustic, then play acoustic! I prefer to move on and expand the art form of electronic drumming. There's always been resistance to the 'new' - guitars, keyboards and bass have been there done that and are now accepted. It's just time that the drummers move on, too.
