So, seeing as i have scored for a decent starter kit (well i hope its decent) I thought i might aswell try n learn properly for a change!!
what are the best vids to watch on you tube? lessons seem to be 10 a penny on there, are there any who stand out...... i hope to get a few lessons in the future, this is just to get me onto the first step as it were.

Well if you want to get started at the beginning I recommend a beginner's book, and a teacher if you can afford one. But as for youtube video's, I find Mike Johnston's stuff always inspiring and challenging but this might be for the more advanced drummer (not to brag, of course).

A couple of my students go to Vic Firth's website and get some good exercises and watch some good videos. I haven't checked it out yet, but here's a link. From the headings, it looks like it just might be what you're looking for...

...oh, and the whole "bass playing" thing? Don't worry, you'll get over it. :P XD

Hey mate, take a few lessons at the minimum. You'll need to know how to correctly grip the sticks, posture, drum positioning, yadda yadda... all those basics. At this stage a book can't replace a teacher standing over your shoulder. You might want to find an instructor that teaches the Moeller technique. Then get a metronome and the book 'Stick Conrol', by George Stone. There's me two cents...
P.S. 1/2 hour to one hour minumum practice at first... more later :)
