I got hold of the wrong end of the stick(or bass pedal) Until reading some drum articles on line just now(stuck in bed with infection) I had been using what i thought was heel toe technique. But its not.

I play heels up, so for single strokes hit with my toe. and then for a double stroke hit the first with my toe and then drop my heel for the second--seems to work fine. anyone else do it this way??

also people say you need to have your heel on the board--it seems to work just as well with the heel on the heel plate, I dont think your heel hits, its the action of dropping the heel that makes your foot hit it again. (never realy analysed it, must look next time i am in the studio) DW do a heel extension kit to build the heel plate up to make it easier to do. dont know wether it makes it easier but it does mean i can sit an inch higher which helps with my drum layout.

I do it your way, and I think you're doing it fine. Its the way Dave Dicenso taught me to do it, so there u go!

I think with going heel-toe or toe-heel it would just be a difference in which stroke is emphasized. ie, it seems to me that the heel stroke would tend to be the softer of the two.

then again, I've never been able to play heel-toe doubles to begin with, so don't listen to me. :) I've always just sort of bounced the ball of my foot, starting at the base of the pedal board and moving up.

Pretty sure what you're doing is a very small slide technique.

After playing the first note and the pedal is swinging back up you drop your heal and push a bit and that's how you get your second note.

Also, for regular heel-toe you don't need your heel on the board. watch some videos on you tube.

double storke In my opinion sounds better if you put accents on second note!!! and that is what you are doing unknowingly;)

I use heal-toe myself but that's just because that's what I was first exposed to. Since then, I've tried out the toe-heal slide and it just hasn't really worked for me. so just do what works for you
