Thinking of making a hybrid kit.... (Mandala related)

I already have a Tama Superstar Hyperdrive 6pc. kit and I want to add some electronic drums. Nothing too fancy.

I was looking and things like:

Both seem to get the job done. While the Mandala USB looks far more advanced (with the multiple layers of sound by cutting the pad into little sections), I have not heard that much about the Mandala drums.

Would you recommend those? They require a computer/laptop so that's a hassle to carry around and set up, but I could get (probably around) 2 Roland rubber pads and a decent drum brain/ module for the same price as 1 Mandala USB.

Also, what's the deal with the Mandala v1.0? Why is it ending production? I saw that thing in action and it is pretty sick. Obviously that is the preferred addition but it is $999 (however it comes with a drum brain preset with all of the cool functions I'm looking for).
