Hey Friends,

Just to start out this is basically a request for advice and conversation.
I have been playing the drums for around a year and a half. As it turns out one of my close friends is having a party and wants my band to play a really fast song. The song is called
'Operation Ground Pound' by Dragon Force if you want to give it a listen. Unfortunately this piece is blazing.

As you can see my predicament is that I am not an accomplished enough musician to play this piece as it stands.

Right now I don't have very good chops on double bass. So the way I want to tackle this problem is to break the rhythm down into simpler parts, remove many of the fancier foot/stick work patterns, but keep the overall stress points in the rhythm. This could mean replacing many fot patterns with stick patterns. or vice-versa.

So I would VERY much appreciate if anyone could offer some suggestions on how to go about doing this. Any pointers and comments are welcome.

Ha! Funny you should mention Dragon Force. I was just working on "heart of a dragon". I really admire Dave "Compact Dynamo" Mackintosh. Like Joey Jordinson, he has incredible foot speed and precision.

I was trying a technique I saw Steve Smith use at first. That is about 2/3-3/4 up the center of the pedal. But on my bigfoot pedals, I find that backing off and playing back toward the hinge is better for me. This is a technique I saw Joey Jordinson use in the following video clip.

Tell your friend that your band doesn't take requests.

I whish I could. This is his band too. I am obligated to reach out to meat his request.
And thanks trkdrmr for the pointer. When I research a technique I do my best to do it properly. It doesn't usually take me a while to get the hang of new rudiments and syncopations. However I think it is unreasonable to ask me a yearling drummer to play a piece of music that Dave Mackintosh doesn't even duplicate on stage - (correct me if Im wrong). I don't believe that any drummer plays the same thing twice to one song, unless it's a specific accent or something.

He probably triggers live. I can't imagine the stamina it would take to play a set of dragonforce tunes. The drummer is constantly laying down continual high speed double kick on just about every tune.
