Hey everyone thought I'd offer to share some practice tools I made up. I made a couple of logic files and used garageband drums.
The first is a decreasing metronome: basically the metronome counts 4 bars then halves the bpm, 4 bars and halves it again. The game is to see how far you can get. E.g. starting at 124BPM, the last level reaches 2BPM, lasting 2 minutes. The beginning of each level is announced with a different sound to let you know where you are. If you can complete that you're in time. I've done it a handful of times with much frustration. You can also adjust the loop length to choose how many levels it goes before returning to the beginning.
The second is a polyrhythmic metronome with one looping bar. The first track is 4 beats, then 3, 6, 5, 7, 11. The "4" track is one sound, the rest another. By muting all but two tracks you can hear what the polyrhythm sounds like and you can get cool combos like 5 against 7 etc.
I haven't worked out how to get these on the internet but if anyone wants the logic files just let me know and I'll email them. Better yet, tell me how to make them accessible to everyone.
