My second post, thought i'd try something a bit more consistent. Try to bear with it during the first half, it get's better in the latter stages.

I like your fills and the way you move around the drumset. Take this from someone who doesn't have your chops but has a good ear and plays different instruments. It sounds like your weak point is your beats and keeping them consistent. If you could work harder on them and polish them a bit, when you bring them in, you're going to bring the house down, think Steve Smith. You remind me of him with your style. Bring some nice groovin' beats into the mix, you're gonna be made in the shade, good job...

You definitely nailed it with my weak point Fish. I'm trying to work on it, and thanks for the kind words and advice. Steve Smith, really?

Cool ideas and nice chops, just some little stutters here and there, but overall good playing. Did you have a click going on those headphones? If not, practicing jamming like this to a click will help tighten your subdivisions (which I need to start doing again myself along with overall practicing because I've been lazy in the last months and I've gotten sloppy cause of it). Another thing I noted was that sometimes the groove seemed to get lost going into longer fill sections (keeping time with the left foot on hihats can help smooth these out). I'd suggest taking the main bass drum pulse, play it to a click, keep quarters or eighth notes on the hihat with the left foot, and practice grooving and phrasing (and preferably reading if you can) over it, without changing the foot pattern. hope this helps

Thanks for the advice cherry, I'll keep that in mind. As far as the groove goes though, i didn't have a click playing and I wasn't focusing too much on keeping it going, so that might be why it seemed a bit loose, but i'll post another solo soon with more continuity.

I'm not saying you're on Steve Smiths level, just the way you bring the beat back and you're not choppy like Weckl, more of a Smith kind of feel, just a subjective opinion with somebody to compare you to. Keep up the good work.
I brought Steve into the picture to try and inspire you with the way he can jam it up and then lay the groove down - it's very appealing and you're on the way.
I'm just getting back into drumming. When I used to play I never had a place to practice on the drums - just a pad in my apartment at the time. I've got an electronic kit now, so hope to work on all the right stuff and share it here when I'm ready. Been doing some keyboards the last 10 years but ready to start drumming again.

Oh trust me, I can't hang with Steve just yet, you got that right, but thanks for the inspiration. And yeah, electronic kits are the bomb for practice but don't get too used to it cause you start to lose some feel after a while. Good luck getting back into it!

I think you have nice fast hands, and good chops.
But for, what you did, I would have liked to hear it a a slightly slower tempo, and slightly better control.
But thats me being critical. Overall., very nice playing and a good feel.

Thanks aydee, i'll keep that in close mind. As for Chris' question, yeah those sound great huh? It's a 10" Avedis Splash on the right and an 8" K Custom Dark Splash on the left. Those being zildjian if you didn't know.

nice solo :) i like the groove, one thing i would add to it is some more hihat accents and some more directed tom rolls, like play 3 strokes(singles or doubles or combo) on the right rack tom, then leave 1 note rest, then 2 strokes on the left rack tom, then 1 stroke on both floor toms at the same time. and work some hihat accents and maybe some ride bell into that, give it a go :), might work out for you :).
so thats 3 on RT, 1 rest, 2 on LT, 1 on Both FTs, and finish it with some ride hihat stuff or something :), if its no good dont blame me, i just came up with it on the spot :).
nice work bud
