when practicin singles and doubles how dyu guys do it, is it to a metronome for a fixed time - this is the way i do it, 10 mins for singles and 10 mins for doubles, i practice them using rebound with no accenting, im looking for some good advice on how i shud practice them.............. also im struggling to get clean doubles beyond, 80 bpm 32nd notes, how shud i refine them, even my singles rnt that great, im also tryin to apply moeller technique, help plse...............
I favour a couple of different things for basic strokes and rudiments in general.
Take them at a couple of different speeds: I can play single strokes as 16th notes cleanly at 80 BPM. When I go to practice I'll work on them at 60 BPM, 70 BPM and 80 BPM. I'll push it a little, and go to 85. This way you're working on it at a range of tempos, and making it more usable in a musical situation. At the same time, play them at a range of dynamics. Most drummers get louder the faster they play, so work on playing really softly at all tempo ranges.
Also: playing them evenly and un-accented is vital, but I'd also be working on playing accented lines. Take a book like Syncopation and use the notes as accents. Play all un-accented notes really quietly, as ghost notes, and play the accents really loudly.
It's all about developing control.
