Has anyone used a Surdo as a floor tom? I have been thinking of adding a second floor tom to my 4 piece kit since I have other kits with 2 floor toms already, and I thought about adding something really different. Would a surdo even hold up to being hit with sticks? If anyone has any ideas or opinions on this please let me know. I was thinking of getting the 24x20 or 24x22 in aluminum.

I believe its a brazillian precussion item that looks kind of like a floor tom. I saw them in a AA meniel catalog.

Definitely Brazillian! The bass surdo looks like a floor tom but it hasn't got any legs. It is carried by the player, attached to the waist. Bass surdos are played with two mallets, or one mallet, damping the head with the other hand. Medium surdos are also played with mallets and high surdos may be played with sticks ... Might be a good idea but the surdo should have a special stand upon which it would rest secured and I don't know if such a thing exist...

This is the one I was looking at. I see there is a model without legs and one with. The only thing is the tension rods appear to only tension from one side? would that be an issue?
