Which way to go?
1. World Max 4x14 Black Dawg (brass)
2. Yamaha 4x14 Brass or Copper (standard nouveau lugs--yuck)
3. Ahead 4x14 Black Brass with Trick throw
4. Pearl Masterworks 4x14 Mahogany with tube lugs

Played them all. The ahead owns them all. That snare is mega powerful, crisp, loud and none of the others throw off comes close.
Haha.
I see my snare thread has influenced your choices...
What happened to trying to get a Ludwig COB Tube lug, or was it a Yamaha Oak you were interested in?
Same thing I asked myself: What sound are you aiming for?
The Yamaha Brass (mines the SD-493, the newer ones are SD-4440) is pretty tasty, but I'm having massive problems with the snares coming loose, not sure if the problems the throw off, the screws, the plastic tag that holds the snare on... So I'm replacing the screws first to see if it'll fix it.
If I get it sounding good I'll post pics and audio for you.

If I had to choose from that list .......uhhhhhh.
Ahead 4x14 Black Brass with Trick throw gets my vote.
Just because of the throw. I am sure they all sound excellent but I would get one with the Trick throw, just put one on my Musashi Oak. :)

It's the only throw I have used for years now. I have no interest in using any other throw. Especially since the gs 007 now comes in multi-stop positions.

That being said, I must tell you that the folks that run Trick are the most down to earth people you ever want to meet. At NAMM, they treated me like they knew me since I was 15. They took the extra time and effort to show me their products, answer questions and were just awesome people. Couldn't say that about very many other companies at that show.

They made me a deal too good to pass up on a custom trick kit. Mike Dorfman is busy making my 6"x12" side snare, and two dominator beaters which will ship next week. They are the final pieces of my trick kit. I will take pics after they arrive.
