I got my new custom DW kit at the beggining of January and only changed the batter heads but still can't get that sweet sound you'd expect from a new DW kit. I've used both coated emps and clearpinstripes. Do you think the problem might be the reso heads? I've decided to switch to Evans so Ill be getting either clear EC2s or coated G2s for batter and clear G1s for reso. Do you think the reso stock head is the problem? Any suggestions?

My kit: DW Collectors Maple
24x20
13x10
16x13
18x14

I play mostly hard rock and punk rock

I've had most problems with the 18" tom.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, your bottom heads are most likely the cause of your problem. I'll assume you know the basics of tuning ?? Replacing the bottom stock heads (which are usually junk) can make a huge difference. If you like Evans, replace them with G1's.

Reso heads are just a clear Remo ambassador. My kit is from 12-22-08 and I haven't swapped heads; my 18" is ridiculously low. Try using ambassadors tuned relatively loose top and bottom.
