There is a big price difference between them so I have some questions.

What is the difference in sound between them?
Other than visual preference, is there any difference sonically from tube to classic lugs?

In my experience (at drum shops that stock all three)...

Supra--dry with a nice throaty crack

Bronze--mid-range warmth

Brass--bright and warm

I think the Chrome over Ludalloy will do just fine for me. Of course I HAVE to have the Tube Lugs.

Sweet! Thanks guys!

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but did you follow the link? There is a fellow that owns all three, and he has a video of each. The sound is pretty representative of the drums.

I'm a LudaLoy guy too (yeah, that's how it's spelled) I like the tone of it better than the more expensive Black Beauty, Brass and Bronze shells I've ever heard.

You can get 'em cheap used too, IF you look around enough. I've got 3 of them, 2 1970's and a 1990's, and they're ALL awesome. Even rusty pitted and nasty looking they sound GREAT!!!

WOW....

See, in Mendozart's video clip of the snares, ...I thought the straight 402 sounded deeper than the Bronze........wow....they just got them down don't they?!?

Gotta go find me one!

I like both, but either way, Tubes or Imperial lugs, you aren't going to ever go wrong with a Ludwig 402.

I do like the Millennium strainer (P-86) over the regular P-85 for sure.
I changed all mine over to the P-86 a couple years ago, and they work great and have had no problems at all (unlike the P-85). They look cool too.

I have all three of these drums too, and the sound on the link is pretty true (having all the drums tuned "about" the same way and letting the shell make the character difference).

I can say though that I have recorded with the Bronze 6.5 since 1989, and it's NEVER FAILED to sound awesome.
It gets set up for the "red light" very fast, and has worked for everything.
Any head, and any tuning from real tight to down ultra low, wet, fat with one lug totally de-tuned has sounded great on the Bronze shell drum.

Have fun with the drum you pick!!

I happen to LIKE them, though I like the P83 better, more because of the compact look of it as compared with the P85. But they both the P85 and P83 seem to work the same. At least for ME they have!!

I couldn't agree more. Tube lugs and a P-86 millenium strainer...Even though mine is an LM400, I like them hand-hammered as well ;-)

As much as I agree, IMO thats not really much of a Supra.
