So I have narrowed down my selection to 2 kits. Either a Mapex Saturn for $1900, or a Pearl Masters MCX for $2500. Any suggestions?

I would go with the saturns. They are quality kits, and it would be $600 cheaper.

The saturns I played edged out Pearl masters maple or birch.

Go w the Saturns, at the end of last year I bought a MCX Chestnut not long after that at a drum store I tried a Saturn and Sold the MCX set right away. That mix walnut-maple from the Saturns do wonders. One more thing if u look around u can drop that $1900 price, I got my set which is a Studio ease w my snare size of choice which was a 14x7 (whole set 22x18, 10x8, 12x9, 14x14 & 16x16 w stated snare), everything for $1600. Start looking online u will find something along those lines.

Ohh never mind u r buying the one from the guys at Mapex super store, definetly go w the Pop to bop, great combo!!! HAHAHHHA I just notice is the one I suggested to u the other day GREAT STUFF!!

OK--looks like it's moot anyway. I have a new set of Pearl Masters and love the sound. That set of Saturns looks pretty sweet, though. My problem is the drum shops around me either don't carry Mapex or only carry their entry-level kits.

In that picture, I especially like the white bass drum logo heads. I've only seen black logo heads on Mapex. Does anybody know--is that a special order item, or does that come with Saturns?

Thanks, Hybridt@vo. Each kit has its own personality, I guess, but most of the time, I'm partial to the white logo heads, as on the Masters I just got. My favorite is the ivory logo heads Tama has on some of the Starclassics. In the case of the Mapex, it really transforms the look for me. That natural finish is nice, too.

Definitely I have a Mapex Saturn Sienna Burst finish and the white reso makes it look more classy
