I've been using Remo for all my drumming career but I've decided to give Evans a try.
I'm changing to Coated G2 over Clear G1 for my toms (I know I cant go wrong with that combo)
I've used the Clear Powersonic for a time now and I really dig the sound. The question is simple. Will the EMAD2 give me the same sound and or better than my existing Clear Powersonic? What are the main differences?
I would combine it with my stock DW logo resonant head.
Just for reference, I play mostly hard rock, some metal, some punk rock and some latin rock.
I use a DW Collectors, all maple kit and I like a big punchy sound. I love it muffled

13x10
16x13
18x14
Thanks a lot guys.

I wouldn't touch either one. The EMAD is famouse for falling apart and the Remo Powersonic is said to be lifeless by some people here. I have been using Aquarian Super Kicks for years now. I switch between the SK 1 and 2. The SK 2 is double ply, the SK 1 is single. I use an Aquarian Regulator on the front with a port hole.

I would just stick to the Powersonic for metal application, but I would almost recommend just moving to a single ply head cause I'm starting to feel like the powersonic doesn't do the bass drum justice.

I tried the powersonic for a week and hated it.
I like the emad, emad II, superkick I, and powerstroke 3. They all work.
I find the aquarian warmer, where the evans are punchier.
I never knew the emad were famous for falling apart, never had it happen. I think that's just anti-Evans internet rhetoric. Remo otoh...

I personally think the Powersonic heads sounded like crap on any kick I heard it on, but if you made it sound good to you, that's great.
Anyway, I had great luck with the EQ1 heads. I used the frosted version, with the larger ring removed.
With all the "new" stuff out there, people seem to forget about that head.
Very nice feel, and a full, fat, punchy sound that is easily controlled.
With a 24x20" kick, you obviously want a nice big sound, and the EQ1 head will get it for sure, without giving you excess amounts of any one thing.
I found it a very balanced head as far as attack, tone, amount of sustain (just enough) etc...
If you like very little sustain on the kick, then using both rings will get that.
Just another option.

EMAD II is the best, in my preference. Its got great dead tone for double bass. I love it.
