My grandfather has found some great deals on Zildjian Cymbals this past year by spelling words wrong. like Zildjion & cymbol or symbol. It acctually is a good idea. he told me he figures people always make mistakes and don't notice it. try it out.

couldn't agree more. I found that the spelling on Craigslist is pretty bad, too. Symbol, cymbol, simbol, symbal, simble, Zoldgen, and it gets worse from there. I type in all sorts of different spellings and usually get hits.

This was my post on the local Craigslist recently:

"Cymbal, symbol, symbal: Does it just seem that way to me, or is it possible that half of the Americans that own a drum kit can't spell CYMBAL? "

Heck, maybe they're selling their symbils because they can't spell it.

Didn't seem to work for me on eBay - any spelling of the word Zildjian will appear all together under one search, presumably the listing functions lump products by type of object rather than spelling.

Edit - I may have to retract that after clicking wloeb's link, good tool!

I've always used that way of searching and I have found some great deals in the past. For example, Tama Granstar might be listed as Grand Star. DUH. eBay has improved it's searching features but people still don't spell correctly.
