Electronic kit question

I'm on the verge of buying an electronic kit, purely for bedroom practice purposes.

Has anyone else done this - and is it a good idea?

Secondly, what what you chose between a Roland TD 3 and a Roland TD 9.
Obviously the TD 9 is more sophisticated, but is it worth paying the extra money?

Any feedback would be appreciated...

The TD3 at L+M in Canada is going for 1025
The TD9 is going for just under 2000

I work at Long and McQuade, the largest music store chain in Canada, and I have to say that the TD9 is definitely worth the money for a few simple reasons.

The TD9 module is the easiest brain to use. There is quick record and quick playback, you can play along to 42 songs of different styles, and some songs have options where you can trade fours. There are more kits, you get the mesh snare (even though I prefer the rubber pad) a lot of people prefer the mesh head on the snare. The TD9 is much more responsive when using a double pedal. The hi-hat is a CY-5 which is a thin splash like pad instead of the thick rubber pad that is used on the toms. With the TD9 you get 3 tom pads where as with the TD3, you only get two tom pads. ALSO the resale value of the TD9 is much better than the TD3, not because it is more expensive, but because it is much much much better. There is also a scope function where you play along to a metronome and it shows you on the lcd screen how much in the pocket you are. If you are even slightly off, you can zoom in and see how little you were off the click to really focus on developing a deep pocket. Hopefully this helps!
