I tried searching for a thread, but couldnt find any on xs20's. What do you guys think of them? Went the the music shop earlier and tried some out, they're quite cheap, and sound pretty good in my opinion.

the 14" medium hats and the 'medium thin' crashes are pretty good, but the rides could be better... of course, anything is better than the B8's!
good hunting!

Hey guys, thanks for the opinions. Funny story, I was back in the music shop today to take them out for a testdrive, and they had a 16" medium thin crash, 14" medium hats and a 20" medium ride for $375 which were display models earlier that day. Great shape, just cleaned them up a bit. Thats good considering the pack here in Canada is $449.99. I set them up when I got home, and they sound even better here !

I used to play with a drummer who had a set of these. Nice plates. Maybe a little sterile for my taste today, but at the time, they fit exactly into what we wanted to do. Good stuff!

B8's to XS20's isn't much of an upgrade. Keep saving your pennies and get some cymbals that will actually be worth it.

I deffinately agree there are much better cymbals out there, but I'm a second year college student and needed a decent sound on a budget. I really want a set of zildjian custom A's, which in the future i'm aiming for. The xs20's are doing a great job right now.

Oh yeah, and just my opinion, I replaced my b8 16" crash with the 16" med/thin xc20 and the sound is ten times better to me.

While I am upgrading my kit, I still have a full line of XS20's. They're great for when you're starting out, but they will grow old.
One think I don't like about them is the lack of sensitivity and the screechy overtones. Since you're upgrading from B8's (Sheet bronze) to XS20 (Sheet bronze) there won't be a HUGE difference in sound.
Overall, I would say to save your pennies a little bit longer and get some professional quality B20 Molded Bronze cymbals. Especially when you can get them pretty cheap off of Ebay and Craigslist if you're lucky. Take time upgrading. You're sure to actually get what you want that way.
EDIT: I didn't read the whole thread before posting. Sorry for seeming so negative, they actually are great cymbals. Congratulations on your purchase and I'm sure they'll do well for you.

I know they are cast bonze, but at least they are b20 bronze. Until I can afford to custom A's, they're doing the job. I am upgrading from paiste 101's and a 16" b8 crash ha, so its good for me right now.

Too funny. One of the great backpedals of all time. I can almost hear the screech of the tires and smell the rubber burning as you turn the negative bus around. Ha.

Paiste 101 and B8 to XS is a great step. At times, I actually prefer the XS series to some of the boring quiet AA stuff...

For the price xs20's are hands down the best cymbals you can buy. I still run the 16" medium-thin crash and the 10" splash along side my other pro level cymbals.

ive got a set, i like them. the ride rings a little too much for me, so i stuck a bit of tape underneath. i like the hats, crash is pretty good, a little bright but thats ok. overall good cymbals.
