hey guys i just saved up money to buy a new ride, but the closest drum shop(its kinda small) is one hour away and i dont know if they will have any that will suite my interest.

i know i was to stick to paiste sig. or zildjian A or K mainly, but im kind of open to some sabian or some of the agop series(though the store will not have them) .

anyway can you give me some ideas that are basically good all around (nice bell, crashable, works for rock, metal, jazz, blues). my budget is around $300 to $425.

ill take some of the ideas to the drum shop and see if they have any of them.

thanks guys

Brendan

The paiste Signature 21" Full-Ride (or) the 21" Dark-Full Ride sound great to me. It's a tough choice when there are so many great cymbals available now, especially since you are working with a nice budget.

Check out http://cymbalsonly.com/. They have a very nice selection, great sound samples and very good prices to boot.

a bell that works for Metal, crashable for Jazz - with a nice wash too i'm assuming, gritty and dark for Blues and also bright with good definition for Rock...

i don't want to come off as sarcastic - but it just seems your asking a lot from one cymbal!
ever think of having two rides?
maybe a jazz/blues/funk ride like K Custom Dark, K Light, or HHX Groove...
and for the metal/rock/punk stuff a A Rock, K Custom Hybrid (don't laugh, it has a monster bell and cuts nicely as a powerful crash), or AAX Metal...

buy one now and the one you will use less further down the road - i just think if you end up buying a 'middle ground' ride, for all styles of music you may end up dissapointed.

just my .02$, it ain't much, but i hope it helps...
good hunting!

p.s. - there are too many incredible ride cymbals out there, having just one seems like a shame ;-)

if bell is what you want, Zildjian Z custom megabell works great, hit it hard for metal, it the bell with the tip for rock or jazz. The bow sounds ok...

That is a LOT to expect from just one cymbal, I agree. It sounds like you need 2 rides--one that's bright and aggressive, and one that's dark and expressive.

I have a 24" K Light Ride that works for everything--it has a bright pingy spot for rock or big band jazz, is mostly dark and thinner and complex which is great for bop, blues, and quiet gigs, it's crashable and pleasantly "shankable", and the bell can be cutting, but it excels at blending. I've played about 15 of these cymbals now, and it seems as though I have the "magic ride" because none of the other ones even sound close to mine in variety. If you find a "grail" like this, hold onto it because they are few and far between, if you even ever come across any. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one, though. I would recommend finding 2 on opposite sides of the ride spectrum that you like the sounds of. Plus, there's nothing wrong with having 2 rides on a kit, so don't think of it as an "either/or" situation.

Good luck in your search! Let us know what you get and why...

Sabian Ed Shaughnessy Universal Ride seems an obvious shoice, or at least a worthy consideration.

Another vote for the K custom hybrid, all-round good ride (in my opinion)
Ainulindale was right about that bell, by the way....

A Sweet Ride is another good option, a little lacking in bell, but good crashability and nice definition.

Best option: Go hit a bunch for yourself, your ears will tell you what is right...
