Im replacing my cracked b8 rock crash with either 17" aa metal x. or the 17" aax xplosion crash. both sabian.

i know that the aa metal x is great for metal, own aa metal x hi hats so i know the quality of these cymbals, i was hell bent on getting the aa metal x crash until i heard the 17" aax xplosion crash and i loved that sound.

to cut to the chase on the sabian website the aa metal x is medium - heavy for the weight, and the aax xplosion is medium - thin.

my concern is therefore the durability of the aax crash, being medium thin. the sound is something that digs my taste but im concerned about the durability. all my other cymbals but my china and splash are heavier cymbals, the b8 rock crash which i cracked was a heavier cymbal.

could i get some views on aax xplosion crashes from peoples expirience with them. how durable are they? and suitable for heavy music? cheeers/.

oh and ive spent a lot of time trying out cymbals and the aa metal x is definately one of my favourite line up cymbals currently, thats the sort of sound thats my taste. but i really like the sound of the aax plosion 17" crash like i mentioned already.

may even end up with 2 17" crashes next to eachother because they are both that good sounding, is that also a normal for a drummer to have 2 crashes that are the same size next to eachother?

I've got a 17" Xplosion and it's an great cymbal - not just for metal music.

There are those who believe the THICKER the cymbal, the more brittle it is. In other words, THINNER cymbals have more "give" and will be more durable.

Reminds me of this old Chinese proverb
"The tree that does not bend with the wind will be broken by the wind"

Ultimately though, if you're in the habit of breaking cymbals often, then you need to learn how to strike the cymbals. Many drummers shrug their shoulders and say yeah, whatever... but it's a fact. Plus you're more likely to cause injuries to your body.

Well, you asked. I'm just saying.

1 thing i forgot to point out, that was the 1st cymbal i broke and its been hit on the crack repeatedly and the crack hasnt spread because i asked my drum teacher to make sure i was hitting cymbals properly and i am now. it broke nearly a year ago. all my other cymbals are fine and not breaking.

i really like the sound of the aax xplosion crash, well in other words does it cut through a band with loud guitars?

Yes, in fact the two cymbals I've used for cutting through the 'wall of guits' are the Xplosion and Zildjian's A Custom Projection crash.

cool man. when you said "its a great cymbal - not just for metal music" did you mean it's good for metal and other styles? or its good but not good for metal?

because im thinking of pairing it with either the 17" metal x crash or the 18" metal x crash.

I meant it was made for Metal music AND can also be used for other styles as well.

sounds like you've already made up your mind, go with your gut.

and no worries - Sabian's 2 year warranty is the best their is!

good hunting...

Definitely go with the AAXplosion. I've got the 18" and the 16" and am getting the 17" soon. They sound great for any style of music. The raw bell is my favorite part. It is also very durable. Personally, I like the sound of the AAX better. When I hit them they just FEEL better. The AA's just seem more rigid and..well I don't know, I don't like how it feels.
