Hi, i decided im going to sell my b8 crashes (16 in thin crash, and 18 in thin crash) and get either 2 sabian xs20 crashes a 14 in and 16 in medium thin, or save up for one aax stage crash, studio crash, dark crash, or aaxplosion crash. Or one sabian AA medium thin crash, or an a custom crash. I need your advice. As you can see i really need to narrow my choices down. I want 14 inch, 15 inch and 16 inch crashes only. My dad wont let me buy from ebay so i have to pay retail or craigslist. (But i really want a warranty) There is however a 16 inch aax dark crash for 85 bucks looks to be in good condition but the logo sign looks like its an older cymbal maybe from low to mid 2000's. I like my crashes to be not too bright and not too dark. I actually liked the sound of my churches paiste signature dark energy crash but thats out of my price range. So i guess i like dark crashes. :D I really need your advice on which one i should get and your opinion. Im leaning towards like aax or aa because i can get a free aax china rebate and theyre a little bit cheaper then the a custom. My mom thinks im crazy to want to get a a custom or high end because i only play at my house (no gigs or anything) but i want good sound. Maybe xs20s or aa's would be good. (Not too expensive) Tell me what you think i should do.

thanks :)

AAXPLOSION CRASHES! But i would recommend higher sizes than 14" 15" 16". I'd say make your 16" the smallest and go up from there. All of the AAX crashes sound amazing by the way. I just really like the raw bell on the AAXplosion.

I have an AAX dark crash, and I love it.

I agree with this statement.
I have the 18 inch, and it's great.
I don't think the smaller cymbals will be loud enough, or sound as good as say the 16", 17", and 18" versions.
I'm actually gonna get the 16" and 17" because I'm sold on AAX after I got my stage hats, stage ride, and dark crash.

Yea especially if you are upgrading from B8's, all the AAX crashes are gonna sound so much better that it almost doesn't matter which one you get. I personally do not like AA's. I'm currently doing the Sabian rebate as well. It's a really good deal. Go try them out at Guitar Center, or whatever music store, and get whichever one feels and sounds the best to YOU, seeing that you only play at your house, but I'm sure you'll be on the stage soon.

definitly go with the AAX's, they sound great!
if you like your crashes a little dark, look at the Dark or X-plosion crashes - both very nice. you could also look at the HHX's if you like the Sabians - the 18" HHX X-treme crash is wonderfully dark and complex - incredible crash!
good hunting!

Yes, if at all possible try before you buy so you know what they sound like. Have you been to Zildjian's and Sabian's website and listened to them?

None of those sounds files even sound like the actual cymbal. You have to try them out in person.

im thinking of either buying a xs20 16 inch crash for 115 bucks new with warranty or buy this aax dark crash 16 inch for 85 bucks about 2 or 3 years old with no warranty. what should i do? heres a pic of the aax

If the AAX is in good condition then get it, because I know firsthand how these crashes sound, and they sound good.

I'd say go with the xs20. It's new with a warranty and they sound good. You don't know if the dark crash is about to crack or just really worn, and no warranty.

yea thats what im worrying about is if i get it then like a couple months later it cracks im screwed out of 85 bucks but with the xs20 im backed for 2 years. But i dont want to pass up a deal on a very nice pro line cymbal. i doubt ill ever spend 175 bucks on a new aax crash. Idk what to do yet

The xs20 IS a pro line cymbal, but at affordable pricing. Compared to your b8's, you might not even be able to tell the difference between the xs20's and the dark crash.

Check this out: even pro drummers think these cymbals rock:

i'm just advising. you can make your own decision, hope this helps.

tough choice man, but i'd say go with the Xs20, not just for the 2 year warranty, which is very nice, but for the good sound as well, they really are a nice sounding line up of cymbals - way beyond the clunky B8's.
good hunting!

These two comments convince me that youre looking at it the wrong way.
Have a read of this guide and see what it can do to help you. If you are buying professional level cymbals, they should last you a long time, so make sure they are the exact sounds youre after - dont just buy whatevers going cheap - Your setup will sound horrible.

I'd say go for the AAX. It will sound better, and I think there is a greater probability the Xs20 will crack than the AAX, though both cymbal lines tend to be a bit sensitive.

This is a no brainer AAX. ten times over.
Why would it crack? it shouldn't, however if you are into taking it out on your drum kit and cymbals from time to time then by all means purchase a couple of dozen solars or cheap wuhans and stay well stocked. When you feel like spazzing out just replace your good pro cymbals with the cheap ones and go to town.

But seriously, a used cymbal has already been try tested and true. So, my point is that if a used pro cymbal breaks its most likely the users fault, cymbals are either defective from the start or they are fine. Stop hiding behind warranties and learn how to hit a cymbal the proper way, be graceful with your strikes and a pro cymbal will last you a life time.
I agree, the choice is yours.

Will Sabian actually replace a cymbal that has been damaged/broken due to abuse from heavy hitting and improper playing? This I find hard to believe.

Yep definitely AAX, either the stage crash or dark crash, both are really great.
