Here's my new beauty. Sonor HLD 598 Signature Bronze snare.
At 35 pounds of pure cast Bell Brass, this snare is just ridiculous.

I do love a heavy, deep snare drum.

I can't...but a guy can't stop living just because he's broke. :)
Besides, I look at this as a solid investment. That's what I told my wife.

Yep. I got a really good price on this, considering the same one sold for 800.00 more in February on Ebay.
I've seen your 2002 on the sonormuseum, I think. It's quite nice.

Thanks! I'll post some more pics of the kit in about a month, once my 8x7 tom arrives.

I gotta start wearing earplugs again...

Hey now I know who you are....lol.
I cannot wait to see the new pics with the 8 inch.
If you do not were the plugs, those drums will make you deaf.
My Solid Shell Canopus Zelkova is louder then any other drum.
My Spirit of 2002 is not as loud as my Zelkova.
Veejay told me to buy the Zelkova.
Nice to see fellow Sonor Members on this forum.
Glad to see you got that drum TM.
I am so happy for you.
Cheers.

The Zelkova is a hell of a snare, from what I hear. Gotta love hollowed out logs.
I'd be afraid to do a rimshot with that 2002, wouldn't want to scratch or dent those glorious hoops. Thanks for your kind words. You're a heck of a nice guy.

That is in my top 5 favorite snares of all time. It's more like a well-crafted musical instrument than a simple snare drum. I even like the use of the small lugs and the signed badges.

Awesome!

Another Sonor masterpiece:

I believe they are to help prevent the lugs from coming out of tune. The new Artist Bronze snares have those, too.

This snare (either the 590 or the 598) has been in my top 3 for a long time. While I prefer the look of the copper hardware on the older 590, I really like that there are very few holes drilled into my 598. Plus the parallel strainer mechanism looks complicated on the 590.

Unfortunately, the Ayotte Keplinger 6x13 was also in my top 3 snares, but I had to seel it to help finance this one. Oh well.

I have been to Veejays place when I bought his Signature kit.
I think to me your snare is the nicest looking one.
Thats just me. I am so glad Veejay did not bid on that and your wife was so cool.
Funny to be so excited for someone else.
Kudos to you for being so blessed.

A question.

Is the shell made of B20 bronze. The term "bell brass" seems to go with snares whereas the term "bell bronze" refers to cymbal casting.

Are they the same?

I know that bronze and brass are both alloys but I'm confused as to why both terms are used for the same material?

OK, so which one is it? The thread title is "8x14 Sonor Bell Brass Snare" and everything else in the thread says bronze.

Just curious.

Bronze is any alloy of copper and tin. Brass is any alloy of copper and zinc.

This snare is cast bronze. Sonor made both brass and bronze Signatures. The bronze is cast, while the brass is rolled and welded.

I kind of bastardized the term Bell Brass to generate more interest in the thread.

Though I personally like a snare that deep, this is probably the sexiest snare I've ever seen on here. Whooaaa momma....
