i just purchased a 70s gretsch chrome over brass 14x5 and am in need of new snares. it currently has 20 strand pearl wires. i wanted to get more snare sound but i do like my sound to be tight and fast with moderate overtone. i will also be putting on a g1 batter and hazy 300 snare.

ive been looking at getting a 30 strand set and lean toward puresound. has anyone tried the metrix brand puresound wires? i can get a 14" 30 strand for like $15 on ebay new.

I have a set of Puresound Super 30 snares on my Ludwig Acrolite, and I really like the sound. There's a certain "sizzle" that those 10 extra wires give you, even when they're pressed tighly against the bottom head, but the snare spray never gets out of control, like it can when you use 42-strand snares. I don't know what makes the Metrix model different, but I'm fairly certain that they'd sound comparable. . .for $15, I'd go for it!

so i started to look around, and the metrix snares are all around $15. is there any reason why theyd be so much cheaper than customs or blasters?
