How do you posistion your snare drum at the kit? I have seen so many books and DVD's where the drummer talks about the technique, but not about the angle the drum shoud be placed at.
If you play traditional, then leaning the drum away from you or to the right a little bit might work.
Making the snare flat seems to be the most popular for both tradidtional and matched. It also might help you for rim shots.
Leaning the drum towards you works pretty well too. I prefer this way and I play matched grip. It just feels better to me when I am playing backbeats. But, I am starting to learn traditional so I might change it.
Also, how about the height? You see all kinds of variations.
