Hi guys,
I have been a drummer for bout 10yrs now and i am a FULL LEFTY. i hv only known a right handed setup kit. I recently discovered left handed drum setup and would like to explore it. i know the price i will pay for that is not being able to share the drum with any one. lol
My biggest problem though is that although i am lefty, I use my right foot for the base drum and would not want to change that. Is their any arrangement that lets you use ur right foot on a left-handed drum setup.
Awaiting ur response.

i play lefty (http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/group.php?groupid=18) and love it. not playing on other kits really doesnt matter to me.
if your wanting to still play kick with your right foot i recommend that you play open handed on a righty kit. if thats not your thing, get a lefty double bass pedal and use the slave pedal with your right foot.
there are alot of lefties here. aydee, MusiQmaN, and basscase are a few...
good luck and let me know if you need any help.

TB's got it covered.
I would only add that you are in a unique position, unlike most of us, to be a sort of a hybrid. If I was in your shoes, I'd explore a million different ways of setting up which might allow me to create some new and novel voicings to my grooves , fills etc..
Everything musician look for his or her own special voice. You've seem to have a head start. Make the most of it.
G'luck..........ya' freak ........ ; )

I have a friend who is left handed, he plays the way that you described. Hihat- left foot, bass drum- right foot. He plays open handed, toms go from right to left with the floor tom under the hat to the left, hi-hat is up fairly high, ride cymbal is above the floor tom. Very odd setup but it's interesting to watch him play, he's got it mastered.

Would you be able to take a few pics of this setup and post it for us? I'm interested to see what it looks like.
I'm an ambidexterity Drummer, i play open hand in everyway possible and open foot lol, i can play on a left or right kit. I think that tbmills, Idea about the slave pedal is correct, that probobly would help you out. But i think you should give learning to use your left foot for the bass a chance, many of my friendsare lefty drummers and were once in your position, they started using their left foots for the bass and BAM, they became much better then they were before. In order to become a good drummer, i believe you need to train your arms and legs to be able to do exactly the same things with each of them, Only then will you be able to do really wicked fills, like playing 160 bmp on bass drum while playing 16th notes on the drums with one hand and 32nd notes with the other. That'd be wicked i reckon. I doubt it, but i hope it helped :)

That might be difficult, I haven't seen him out in a year or so. I'll search my pics & see if I have any, but no promises, sorry.

@ tbmills: I think your Idea is wicked but like aydee said, i think i should play around with a couple of diff setups and see which one is convinient and also i would try to retrain to use my left foot but i tell u that is going to be really hard cos i play football too and that is with the right foot. I would let u guyz in on the results of this experiment.
