I have the mapex v series, i am using the evans g2s on top and bottom, they really ring, so i use the external rings to deaded the sound, is there a better combination of heads i could use so i wouldnt have to use the external rings all the time I would like to use the rings only when i really need them, or is it the type of drums they are? Thks

I use g2's on my kit because of that "ring". They're brighter with more attack and sustain. I'm not sure of their product line, but if you look on the box that your evans heads came in, there is a useful graph that explains the sound characteristics of each of their models. I'm quite sure that there is exactly the head you're looking for in their lineup. It's probably also on their website

I never preferred Evans heads, but that's besides the point.
Most of the problem with ring you're having can be solved with proper tuning.
You should either learn to tune by ear (listening to pitches) or do like I did and buy a Drumdial tuner.
I still tune by ear to a certain point but then use the Drumdial to get each lug even, that way when I want to raise or lower the pitch, it's perfect.
How are you tuning to batter in relation to the resonant head?
