I have a ton of snares but my 14x6.5 edge is my #1 snare. Great at any volume, and it can be very loud.

Man, if you've got the cash for a craviotto, the world is your oyster. Don't just limit youself to those two choices. For that money, you could get a unix or jtp stave that would absolutely sing. Don't get me wrong, the crav and the edge snares i'm sure are fabulous, but if i were to spend custom drum money for a drum, i'd get something truly custom.

100% agree -- if your budget is into the four figures for a snare drum, the appropriate question is not "Edge vs Craviotto" (both killer drums; I LOVE my Craviotto), but "What EXACTLY do I want?" You can get it in that price range.

I'd figure out what exactly you want because you may find that what you're actually looking for is safely under your budget. I'd research your favorite snare sounds and go in that direction.

Consider the obvious practical questions as well -- the Edge is a very heavy drum and I've never taken it to a gig since it's just a pain from that angle. Don't think I'd take my Crav out to a gig either (though I would take the 20s NOB out, and I've used all of the above while recording).

"Tight and cracking" is a good start, but you can probably get your ideal drum in this price range if you're really specific, which will also help avoid any churn. :)

Hey if i were you, I'd make an arrangement to buy one, and if you don't like it, exchange it for the other, and if you don't like that, exchange it until you get what you need. You have the power, you have the cash. State your terms. You are the boss. Money talks baby, use the power to your advantage.

I have both drums. A 6.5X14 Crav. and a 6X14 Edge. Both are fantastic drums. The Edge is a brighter sounding drum. As others have said it's very heavy.

If you want a bright cutting sound go with the edge. If you're looking for a warmer sound go with the Craviotto.

Single ply heads are the ticket for these drums.

Either way you'll be thrilled with the sound.

Thats the problem man im tired of buying and selling first i sold the one that came with my kit pacific lx exotic, then i bought a tama valkyrie warlord and hate it big sound, then mapex black panther stainless steel 14 * 5.5 good crack and loud but too brilliant sound, then mapex black panther birdseye maple 14 * 6.5 i kept this one but is not what i was looking. i still looking, in my search i saw the new 380th anniversary of zildjian noble and cooley makes it and the carbon steel of ocheltree. i dont know how sounds but if you konw let me know.

How 'bout an Edge Craviatto?

I have a 6x13 I'd part with AND include the H&B hard case.

PM if interested.

Thanks!

The thing I like about the Edge is that it is as hybrid shell that combines maple and brass.
You get the warmth of the maple and the crack of a brass drum. The drum can be very loud. Single ply heads really bring the drum to life.

If you want to go all maple a 5 X 14 will bring out more crack than a deeper shell. I have a DW 5 X 14 solid shell and it's a cool drum. Much brighter that the 6.5 inch depth.

Today heard the noble & cooley 380th anniversary and dissapointed me.$1800 so, so expensive and doesnt have the sound that im looking, but it sounded like a normal price drum. I think ill buy both of them dw edge and craviotto in 14 * 5 the way you describe them sounds like two must have snares drums.
