Hi everyone, i was thinking about getting one of the smaller kits, especially the Sonor jungle kit, does anybody out there have this kit, do you recommend it or is there another kit out there similar, i guess in my old age, I dont feel like carrying all the stuff anymore. I play some blues, rock, its loud but not that loud, any info out there would help. Thks.

I saw Steve Smith playing on one of those and it sounded pretty damn good, although I would get a set of drum mics to go with if you're going to be playing anything louder than jazz.

Check out the Yamaha Hip Gig. Very impressive sound in a small package.

I went through a stripping down phase a while ago. I got some clamps and cymbal arms. I got down to as few stands as possible. I did get it down very lean. I guess my point is you can strip down with any kit.
Now if you are looking for a new toy then that is completely different, and I SOOO understand that. http://robertmdrums.com/emocons/wink.gif

I haven't played the jungle kit, but I've played the 10" x 2" snare a few times, and I wasn't that impressed. If you like the sound of the kit (play anything before you buy--strongly urged), then get one, but get a different snare, as the small-diametered, shallow, and jingled snare is a very specific sound that sounds more like a sound effect than a snare.
Or, have you checked out the Cataline Club Jazz kit? Not very loud, but probably just as loud as the Jungle. The sizes would make up for the wood selection. Plus, I'm sure you can find one to try out MUCH easier than the Jungle. What's your budget? Maybe even make your own kit using keller shells...???

That's my suggestion. That's exactly what I did. I built a tiny kit (7x10, 13x13 with a 13x16 bass drum). Volume is not a problem. Go to www.drumfoundry.com. You could get everything you need there. The price doesn't come out much more than a Gretsch Catalina or Sonor Jungle kit if you're building one this small. And it's a hell of alot of fun.

I figure there are some people that have these kits out there
Sonor jungle kits
Taye bebop kit
Yamaha gig kits
Mapex Manhatten kit
Gretch jazz kit
t I know dw has there own, and probably countless others, so out of all these kits, i was wondering who has 1 of these, what there opinion was on them, whats the better choice, i know i have to try them myself, but just trying to get a handle of what other people say. I heard the Taye bebop kit at a jazz concert, and they sounded really nice, i was leaning towards them, but want 2nd options. Thks.
