I've been thinking about that and I think that would be pretty cool
silver is a very good tonal material and I'm wondering if anyone has tried to do that

I think a guy named Eddie tried it once

do you have a picture or a video of how it sounds?
or where could I find that?

A silver snare would be expensive so very few people would make one. It would be cool to hear and see one though so if anyone finds a picture and/or audio/video of one that would make me happy!

I also wonder if anyone has made a gold snare.

Silver is appx. $10USD/oz. right now. That'd be one expensive snare. Also, silver is delicate and tarnishes really easily. You'd have to put a serious protective coat on it to keep something that extravagant looking nice for years.

Gold is extremely soft and would have to be diluted with another metal to stay in shape (like gold coins are). At around $800/oz. (currently) that'd be one cosmically expensive drum.

I always wondered if leaded crystal would make a good drum material? It's got exceptional acoustic properties (for example; fill with a little water, wet your finger-tip, and run your finger along the edges - it sings). I had a crystal wine glass out today since we're hosting for dinner and when you tap on it, it sings like a tuning fork.

Sure it'd be delicate but it'd be a cool experiment, anyhow.

Sorry, didn't mean to get side-tracked.

There was a drum shell made from lead crystal, I saw them on line.
Forget the name of the company.
Said he never had a shell break.
Wild.

My Spirit of 2002 is one cool snare.

that would be tight i know there is a gold plated pedal... someone should make one out of weed at around $50-75/oz the perfect middle!

I've never heard that silver is necessarily a good tonal material, interesting idea though.

I'd think that a shell made from glass would be too bright for any reasonable use, but people use steel snares, so it's anyone's call.

silver is actually a very good tonal material considering french horns are all made from it
the snare would probably have a very smooth tone to it
I just wish someone would try it
