Heya,
First time posting, but I have been snooping around the forum for quite a while now :)

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people that posted helpful information, and thanks to all the people that made me laugh while reading, hah.

I've been drumming for 7 years now, ever since my crazy parents got a 12 year old kid a beginners drumkit. Played the heck out of that set for 7 years, and decided it was time for a new kit. To make a long story short, it came down to Gretsch Cat's and Pro M's. After hearing them, and reading just about every single thread here and at the Pearl forum that was tagged Mapex and Gretsch, decided to go with the Gretsch.

After a little searching, found a brand new kit for $500, no tax. So, quickly grabbed one, and bam, I am now a darn proud owner of one beautiful deep cherry Cat. So, from all the posts I have read, you probably want pictures, so here we go, they aren't that good, just taken with an old brick of a digital camera with a whopping 2 megapixels :D.

Closeup of the finish, pictures don't do it justice.

Next upgrade, new heads, still deciding what sound I want, and therefore what heads.

Specs of everything:
Cat's
Zildjian:
18" ZBT Crash
14" ZBT Hats
20" ZBT Ride
16" ZBT Crash
Paist 10" Pst3 Splash

PDP Double Pedals, cheap things, good enough for learning though.

Crappy hardware, next replacement after heads.

Thats about it, thanks again guys, you rule! haha.

Still working on tuning, and don't have decent heads, but the sound is still pretty solid. Due to the clear, single-ply stock heads, the sound is pretty bright and resonant on the toms, floors are pretty boomy, a little too much for my taste, but that is what moongel was made for :D. Bass drum has a nice punchy sound, snare also sounds pretty dang good with stocks. Nice crack to it. Overall, its a beautiful sounding kit.

Very beautiful! Great drums regardless of price . Good luck with them.

Congrats, the pics are not coming through on my PC, but I assume it was a Cat Maple? I just bought a set myself for about the same price. I am just amazed at their sound (btw an EMAD batter is simply awesome on your bass). This is my first set in 30 years, and it sounds just as good as any of the Ludwig or Rogers sets I used to play in the 70's. The hrdware and finish may not be, but the sound sounds even better!
