since i'm new to this drum wood, i'm wondering if there's a particular snare anyone would suggest that would work sonically well with it?
not that i need to buy more gear, but you know, it's always tempting;) i was thinking a Chad Smith since i'm on a budget, and if i win the lottery, a Pearl Reference...
right now, i'm using a BP birdseye 14x5.5 now and like it, but wonder if other options would be good too?

How do you like those oaks? I've been tinking with the idea of making them my next set............tough to beat good maple in my ears though.

Why not an oak custom snare?
Ditto. They make a great sounding snare. I had a 7X14 Oak Custom snare that I used with another kit and kept the snare longer than the kit.

The Yamaha Musashi snare (also oak) would complement your kit well. So would a Ludwig Acrolite, Supra, or BB. I have an Ahead 14x6 COB that would fit the bill perfect. For that matter, my Imperial Star 14x6.5 or my Artstar14x7.5 would both be fine. There are really more snares that will work than won't. That's why it's always nice to have a few snares in your collection.

Slingerland TDR marching snare would sound sweet. You need something that loud to keep up with the oak shells.

I would do the Yamaha Oak snare or a non wood snare that really cracks. Check out the good snare thread sticky at the top of the page. You may find some good ideas there also.
