I've been experimenting with different tensions of the kick drum, both batter and resonant. I was just wondering what kind of feel yall liked for your kick drum. Do you like it loose so you can bury the beater and get a solid feel? Or do you tighten it up so you can get a good rebound from it?

Somewhere in the middle for me. I don't bury the beater.

Because I'm using an intact reso head, I always get quite a bit of rebound regardless of the head's tuning. I like to use different tunings for different sounds, and will adapt my technique to work with the drum's feel. Tuning for feel is a quick road to a compromised drum sound.

my batter is fairly tight, and my reso is loose. I bury the beater if the song asks for a big BOOM and I unbury the beater if want a quicker sound

my resonant head is just tight enough so that it doesn't wrinkle, and it has a 5" hole in it. My batter head is kind of tight, there's 2 towels in my bass drum, and my pedal spring is pretty tight. I like the pedal to do most of the work for me, bringing the beater back so I can play faster bass drum patterns with single bass. (I don't use double bass)

I like the action to be fast, and the sound to be a deep and quick "DOOM"
