True story: RMV lost distributorship in the USA. This is a horrible thing, because I like the kits as much as some high end kits. RMV were priced at the lower end of intermediates. Greatest brand that could have been...

I had just bought my last kit, when I happened into a "Liquidation world" store. They had rows upon rows of RMV drums, TRX and Orion cymbals. They tended to price stuff individually, and the kick drum alone was something like $299 each. The set I *could* have had...

Of all the professional kits I've had over the last 30 years (Ludwig Classics, Pearl Masters, Tama Artstars, Remo, etc...) this studio shell kit is by far the best sounding and has the most projection and tone. I was initially torn between DW, Pork Pie, and Maryland Drum after playing various kits and configurations in recent years. Then I spoke to a few friends who carried RMV's at their '5 Star Shops' exclusively and they explained how they made EVERYTHING "in house" in Brazil and it reduced the price to that of a mid level kit. I was able to hear them and I was blown away. I was also fortunate to pull a few more strings to get a great price on the kit through the CA distributer, and I pieced together the cymbal collection from "new/old stock" from shops nationwide. I couldn't be happier. I had toyed with ordering another kit in Black Sparkle before they shipped kits back to South America after they gave up US distribution a few years back, but I put it off and missed out.



As for the wall... you should see the rest of the house and scrapbooks : )

I was a part time music photo journalist for about 20 years. I was able to do sound check shoots with many of my favorite rock players from over the the years - and the Mrs. and I still keep in touch with a few and travel out to see them on the road on occasion. In the pics behind the kit there are photos of my wife and I with RUSH, KISS, VAN HALEN, OZZY, DEF LEPPARD, IRON MAIDEN, BON JOVI, ALICE COOPER, AEROSMITH, METALLICA, MEAT LOAF, STYX, MOTLEY CRUE, WHITESNAKE, ASIA, JOURNEY,TESLA, TED NUGENT, etc... We've had a lot of fun with it and met some great folks.

Your entire situation is very impressive and inspiring. The room is clutter free and dedicated to the drums. The memorabilia on the wall is very cool. The fact that they are pics of you and some music greats is even better. The set up itself is very clean and professional. It all seems signs of a drummer dedicated to his drums.

My former drum teach has some RMVs and the biggest stand out was the projection. I actually sat in one time during a rehearsal of his and played them mic'd up. They were just great sounding drums.

Yeah...actually I added the gong bass about a month back and it gets quite a bit of use.
(Great for little bang-ups at the end of songs... nice rumbling low end...)

After playing bigger double kick kits for years, I intended to just scale down
to a standard "1 up 2 down" kit. Then I really thought about my love of proggier hard rock
and thought I could really use the small racks too (8" and 10"). Works great - very comfortable set-up to play.

Beautiful kit. RMV was really starting to gain a foothold here, and then...( I think politics got in the way). I love the standard 5 piece configuration (1 up, 2 down) and then your additions left of the hi-hat, etc. Sweet.

Yeah. I think that was it - the politics and the exclusive deal with "Five Star Shops" held them back a bit. They needed to ink a deal with GC, Sam Ash, etc..etc.. could have made for great business, especially with the lower than average cost of the kits.

Thanks... love the Iron Cobras...find them to be quick but more sturdy in the footplate
then my old DW's or Camco's from years ago.

That's a 10" Rock Splash on the far left. Great cymbal and not at all overbearing as it's name may imply.

I use Vater 1A sticks with Vater stick wrap... pretty durable.

I love the color too, and was really glad it was an option. I wanted a metallic grey
custom paint job, but this wrap looked so good (similar to car paint) I was more than happy with it.

And yes, the sound was the main reason I had to have them. Get a lot of compliments on the sound from other musos and engineers.
I remember being hesitant initially before ordering the studio shells, since I wanted a lot of projection (play mostly commercial hard rock).
I asked my buddies at the shops, "Do the studio shells project ? " And they just laughed and said, "You'll see..." : )

Eric is a longtime friend since the mid 80's. I thought it was great that PEARL honored him with such a great sounding and great looking signature snare. When I first heard them, when they first became available, I knew I had to get one...then I got such a great deal on it I grabbed a second for a back-up.

Usually...6-8 crashes. 3 each side or 4 each side. He's done that for quite awhile. (Also with Cooper, Brian May. Badlands, etc...) Loved his time in Badlands - saw them a lot. Great band.

I knew I forgot something... I didn't take pics of my AHEAD 6 "x 14" 'Black On Brass'
Snare (with a TRICK throw off). Pics don't do it justice - it's a beautiful black mirror chrome...
and the sound is stunning. It sounds like a ballsier 'Black Beauty' with lots of cut and sensitivity.
It's become my main work horse in recent months.

Unfortunately, no. They had roughly a 4 year run at US '5 Star Drum Shops'. RMV pulled out
and continued to focus on South America and parts of Europe (which they've done since '76).

The gong bass was a recent addition. Couldn't believe I was lucky enough
to track down the same shell stype/color/and hardware color.

Sounds amazing. I sincerely hope RMV gives the US market another go
soon - I'll gladly purchase another kit for gigging.
