Me and my dad finished our second snare today. It is all custom 4x12", but the strainer is nickelworks and head Remo and the snares are truesound.
The shell is made from some wood I don´t know what is called in english, but in icelandic it is call Hnota. The shell also has 2 maple stripes in the middle.
The hardware is very "industrial". I need a shift key to tune this drum lol.
And the hoops are made from plastic! This plastic is I think the hardest plastic ever. It is hard as a rock.

Here are some pix of it and the other snare my dad made a few weeks back.

well, it doesn't get any more unique than that, with those rims on it :-). How does it sound? Can you put soundclips online?

I reckon rimshots are going to be hard to execute with that snare btw...

Jesús kristur Aron! Lætur mig bíða í FIMM mínútur. FIMM!! btw. hvað er hnota?

The good ol' Hnota!! Cool snare anyways. Different lugs, but they're freakin' cool! :)

Looks cool! What matters most to me though, is how it sounds.. A sound clip would be great.

So, Jalli, how do you say the Hnota in english? What type of wood is it? Also, the rims when I first saw them I thought plastic so I kind of freaked when you said they were plastic...the lugs are in fact quite unique...would love to hear that drum...thanks for sharing.

What I said to him was "What the hell is hnota?". I don't even know what it is in Icelandic! :D Never heard of it :).

What about bearing edges? Are you not scared of ruining them while you play, because it looks like the rim doesn't cover it..

Thanks everyone.

It doesn´t sound good at the moment, I need shorter rods so I can tune it up higher. I´ll put soundclips when that is done.

I never thought of that, my dada really wanted to try these rims and they work. I´m thinking of buying rims.
