Anybody ever try using clear dips as resos on the toms? Any thoughts on how it would change the drums sound as compared to clear amb resos?

They will produce a slightly brighter sound with less sustain.

Less sustain? Damn! I want sustain and brightness.

Clear Ambassadors on both sides. What batters are you running now?

Batters are always clear amb, I'm shooting for the most attack and the brightest ringiest drums the world has ever heard. I just put on medium weight smooth white Ludwig heads as resos. (I had a whole set of brand new ones in my stash) I gotta say, I like them, they ring clearly with round bass, but I won't really know for sure until my next gig this Friday night. One time I tried snare sides on all my toms as resos, but that was a little too extreme, it lost bass. I never tried the diplomats though. My Ludwig are the same thickness as the Diplomats, 7.5 mm, but they're smooth white, which to my ear are bassier sounding heads than clear. But so far I'm liking them.

More mass = more sustain, less mass = less sustain, assuming the same number of plies.
Check out this Bob Gatzen video (http://www.tothestage.com/MediaDetail.PAGE?ActiveID=1142&query=bob%20gatzen&MediaId=774) on reso heads, you can hear the sound of different resos on the same drum.

I used clear Diplomat resonants in all of the Kumu clips. The Remo clips feature coated Emperors over clear Ambassadors.

I prefer to use Diplomats on my Kumus, since they seem to open up and sing more nicely that way.
