This roll idea sounds amazing ones you get it of to a fine art. It helps to perfect your accuracy and punctuation of every note in your rolls. I've been showing my student this recently so let me know what you think.

The bold notes are the accents

R L RR LL RR L R LL RR LL R L RR LL R L RR LL R L RR

L R LL RR LL R L RR LL RR L R LL R L RR L R LL R L RR

L R LL RR LL R L RR LL RR L R LL RR L R LL RR L R LL

R L RR LL RR L R LL RR LL R L RR L R LL R L RR L R LL

This is kind of intermediate stuff that I usually show my students and they tend to really like it. I know it's simple but I hope someone out there might find it interesting.

That's actually a combination of age-old rudiments.

Combining singles and doubles...that's a great idea! Why didn't I think of that?

Seriously though, if it's something that you came upon and it means a lot to you, then I'm happy for you and encourage you to keep at it...

Seriously though, if it's something that you came upon and it means a lot to you, then I'm happy for you and encourage you to keep at it... Actually I was just hoping that some beginner or intermediate player would find this useful and would appreciate some help. It wasn't ment for the more advanced players. I tend to show this to my students and hoped that some guy who hadn't been playing all that long would find it.
Thanks though.

Yep, I saw him perform this in one of his solo's and just wanted people who haven't seen it before to see what they think.

Well, I'm not very advanced, so I'm benefiting from it. But that's like, awesome that I guessed correctly, haha. I thought I'd be wrong, and someone would scold me. COUGHanyonewhoseverpostedonanyofmythreadsaboutmypd p805COUGH.

I'm not saying that the exercise isn't useful for more advanced players -- it is -- but it's not a rudiment.

I wouldn't call me that advanced.. but I am not a complete newbie either.

I will try your idea though, looks good.

I will try your idea though, looks good. Thats cool. Glad you like it and try just messing around with singles and doubles by placing the accented notes on the toms. Very Very simple stuff to do and easy to perfect but always gets the crowds jaws dropping when you pull it of at high speeds. Play around with the order of it and invent somthing no one has ever seen before.
If you come up with anything cool let me know.
Have fun dude.

Thanks for the post though

COUGHanyonewhoseverpostedonanyofmythreadsaboutmypd p805COUGH. I'm glad you are benefiting from it. Try coming up with your own singles and doubles stuff. It's dead easy to do and people are always amazed at it when you can pull it of at high speeds and putting the accents on the toms. By the way I never personally scold people for getting stuff wrong. I make mistakes all the time. I personally don't learn the names of rudiments I just play them!!!! You know what I mean.
If you come up with some stuff let me know.
Keep drumming dude.

You should also remember the switched paradiddle (don't know it's exact name..):

RllrLrrlRllrLrrlRllrLrrlRllrLrrlR

or

RllRLrrLRllRLrrLRllRLrrLRllRLrrLR

For me, it's quite a lot more useful because you can easily get that accent on the 1-e-a-A, whereas in paradiddle you can't have that. And I can play it much faster and smoother that way, I don't know why is that. But i've came up with tons of cool 32-th fills with that. For example, a basic but great rock feel fill:

CT: 1---a---2---a---3---a---4---a---1---a---2---a---1---2---3---4---1
HH: ----R---R---R---R---R---R------
BD: R---R---R---R---R---R---
SN: ----R------L---L---L--
CR: R--------------------------------

uh.. have to go, i'll complete that as soon as I get home :-D

This is great. it becomes very tricky when you try to play it very fast.

RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL
RL LR RL LR RL LR RL LR
LL RR LL RR LL RR LL RR
LR RL LR RL LR RL LR RL

RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL
RL LR RL LR RL LR RL LR
LL RR LL RR LL RR LL RR
LR RL LR RL LR RL LR RL Hey, This particular one sounds even better if you through single strokes in between each phrase e.g

RR LL RR LL RR LL RR LL
RLRLRLRLRLRLRLR
RL LR RL LR RL LR RL LR
LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR
LL RR LL RR LL RR LL RR
LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR
LR RL LR RL LR RL LR RL
RLRLRLRLRLRLRLR
Then try throughing these around the kit.
