I was just wondering is there a difference between the new speed kings and the 1970's ones.
And which should i get, or it doesn't matter

From what I heard they haven't changed very much over the years, I tried a newer one and wasn't very impressed though.

About the only real difference is a teflon bushing added to the works to eliminate the famous "Speed King Squeak". New $100-120. Used $25-50.

A little oil can take care of the squeak.

I've been using a new Speed King for a few months now and its all good, I hit it hard and it stands up to the beating, I go soft and she is very responsive. I will admit that it took a while to get use to it after using an Iron Cobra for a few years. Then again it was the first pedal I used back in the 80's.

The new or old Speed king is my all time favorite single pedal. The modern version has better bearings but the old school pedal just feels built of better materials in my opinion.
