I can attest the Rod Morgenstein's Drumset Musician is pretty good for a new guy. I have used it since the beginning and it is helping me figure it out. Learning about triplets, 12/8th time right now.Frankly, I think the people who invented music reading were kind of mashochistic. MeanSpirited $##%$* who ever came up with the Dotted Quarter Note. MAde my head hurt. :-)

Mel Bay Modern Drum Method 1 by Steve Fidyk is a great book for learning rhythms. It has a CD, so you can hear what the rhythms sound like. You can order it from Amazon or Mel Bay.
