Hi I am having an old 1970 Slingerland kit restored and will be using the kit for smaller indoor gigs. My thought was to put Remo coated Ambassadors on the 12" & 16" tom batters and the clear Ambassadors on the reso side, Any other choices are welcome by all means. I was even thinking of the Aquarian Jeff Ocheltree retro heads but there very expensive and I never really cared much for the Aquarian tom heads.

Thanks

I guess it's all preference, the sound and feel you want, and the type of music you play, but I think coated Ambs over clear Ambs is a great choice! Coated Emps over clear Ambs and clear Emps over clear Ambs are also excellent and popular choices as well as clear Pinstripes over clear Ambs.

I've found clear Ambs are basically "The Standard" for Reso heads across the board - with good reason!

A great "classic" combo for the type of shell you have. Like MD, I use the clear Ambassador as my "standard" tom reso. head. Other head choices on batter, for me, would be Controlled Sound, Powerstroke 3, and Emperor.

Coated ambassadors on top and bottom would work nicely too, give just a bit more warmth to the sound.

the Ocheltree heads are made by Attack and not Aquarian. they are expensive.

both the Ocheltree and Bozzio series are made of Mylar whereas the regular Attack series are made of Dynaflex. also the Ocheltrees are 1000 gauge film where the I think the Bozzio single plys are 750, just like an ambassador type head.
