Hey all,

As a drummer, I have spent many hundreds of hours practicing to make my left side equal to my right. Not there yet, but definitely closing the gap. I am also an electrician, that's how I make my money because being a musician in America doesn't pay squat, but my point is that in my line of work there are many tripping hazards. I have to say, even though my feet catch these hazards regularly enough, I never fall, I always recover without hitting anything. I do believe that it is because I am working on achieving equalization of my brain halves through drumming. So an added benefit of drumming for me is I never trip. Anyone else have any added benefits? Is this thread way stupid?

Not at all man, interesting.

I kick ass at games on the wii lol. Other than that, I can do weird things that your mind isn't supposed to let you do which I probably got from limb independence. I have good hand eye co-ordination, which... you know. I know how to practice things well. A lot of stuff really.

Good thread.

I can write, brush my teeth, use the mouse, and a lot of other things with both hands!

but seriously...i feel that my work ethic has definitely improved. as drummers, we tend to do pretty boring practice (singles, doubles, paradiddles, etc.) in the name of getting better. and, well, in school, its just 10x more boring. so i guess it helped :P,

Good, strong hands are great for many, you know, house chores :-)

I also have great reflexes as a result of drumming. I will catch things with amazing precision before they hit the floor etc. really a cool thing to have...

Did you trip a lot before you started this left side work, or maybe you were just born with a good sense of balance. I don't think tripping and falling are right side-left side problems unless every time you trip you fall on your left side, or right side. Its good that you are working on off-side drumming but not real sure how this translates.

Yes. I would fall down constantly. Then I started drumming. Drumming made it so I don't fall down anymore. JK

I absolutely think my drumming abilities have made me a better cook! Really! I'm a damn good cook, and I owe it all to drumming.

Jay I think that is the Drumstick-Chopstick continuum.

I will say 4 way coordination is a superior mental exercise, it should keep the brain young if you do it into old age. You guys are giving great answers, and people need to know our awesome talents ha ha
