Looking for a sound

I am looking for a snare sound that is used in Reggae and Ska. I hear the sound from the aggrolites drummer and Deals Gone Bad. I think it's the product of a brass snare. I can kinda get the sound when i use and outer rim part of the snare head. Any help to archive this sound would be great. Thanks, - Mike
