Hey guys
I play alot of metal drumming (so alot of double bass etc) and just wondering what the best height to have your stool is?
For example , are my legs suppose to be higher than my snare , lower or what and by how much? Thanks alot!

It doesnt really matter if your legs are higher than your snare or not. What should really matter is what angle your legs are at. There is no "correct" angle, so just do what feels best. Same w/ ur snare, dont change the height accordingly to your legs, make it so you can play it comfortably.

Also, people are different heights, if you understand my point.

I don't agree with Class A. Sorry bro but you are giving some bad advice there.

In my book snare height does matter. For proper technique it should be high enough so you are not hitting your thighs when hitting the snare, nor having to put your hands between your legs to hit it. I know some well known pro drummer do have their snare lower than their legs, but I would not recommend that. I'd say a good height would be about the equivalent of your index finger higher that your thighs.

Considering throne height you should set it so that your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. Going lower that this can cause back problems, knee problems etc. Don't hesitate to sit a bit higher so your legs steep down a bit. But don't sit too high - this won't help with your balance on the seat.

Good luck.

I believe that it is best to have your knees below your waist. This helps prevent a bad back.

Totally agree with Drum head. I would go a touch higher so that your toes need to curl down to touch the floor.

I also recommend sitting with your legs at least parallel to the floor or better yet on a slight downward sloping angle. Yea if you sit to low you will get a bad back.

ive also noticed that if you sit to high the throne knida pinches your legs/buttocks region and makes it terribly uncomfortable

I think it is very personal how high your throne is. I (6 foot 1 inch) like to sit high and have my drums lower. I just like it like that. The second drummer in our jazz band likes sitting lower than me and hes about 3 inches shorter.

For basic throne height I would think you would pay the most serious consideration to the position of your legs and feet in terms of being able to comfortably operate pedals for long durations. Those are always on the floor. You can move everything else up and down.

I forget where I read it but somewhere I heard that the belly button should be around the height of the rim of the snare, but I guess it's also preference too. Works well for me :)
