I just purchased an omni-condenser (X-M model) mic from Naiant to use for overhead micing (http://naiant.com/studiostore/microphones.html)

My purchase is an experiment and based largely on what I heard and read at this post ... http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38647

Anyone have any idea what type of mic clamp would work for this microphone? Right now my plastic mount is threaded and screws onto the boom arm, but I think I may need a jaw clamp or something to grab the mic ...

Thanks for any insights!

Best,
Steve

Great mics. Im using the Naiant MSH-1 Custom (122db pad)

Im using standard microphone clamps with a cymbal felt slice between the mic and clamp (it is quite a small Neutrik xlr connector) or im using a tightening mic. lamp.

I'm hoping it's a good choice. Was basically looking for an inexpensive, 1-mic solution for low to moderate acoustic drum settings, relatively flat kit layout (cymbals and drums), and small room home environment.

I have a relatively inexpensive mixing and recording environment too (Behringer mixer and Tascam DP-01 recorder). Not sure how much noise and fidelity loss there is in the chain, but this will get me started at least and I can figure out if it will meet the need and/or I need to tweak something in the chain.

I bought the clips from naiant. I think they were $5 each. I would recommend that you get two and try the recorderman method. I got excellent results with the naiants as well as the oktava's

Wayne,

Thanks for the reference. Thanks also for your first post - it was very informative.

I hadn't seen the recorderman technique before. Once I get a little more grounded with my core equipment, I may have to get another mic. So far, I'm very happy with the purchase, and I get a pretty good balance across the whole kit.

I'm kind of amazed at how sensitive the mic is. I can hear my kids from all the way across the house with the mic on! I can also ear every little mistake I'm making while playing too! :)
