View Full Version : Dennis Chambers and pillow practice
I know there a lot of people that wouldn't agree with the use of much pillow practice for many reasons. But when I see guys like Dennis Chambers and Tony Royster play, they are such powerhouses. I know that they don't JUST play on pillows, but they both do use it and it seems it does contribute.
This is something I found:

I want to know what people have to say about it.

I think a modicum of this sort of training is a good idea. After all, not all surfaces we play on, have a practice pad or tight snare drum bounce. You have to develop a certain degree of muscular control of the sticks for surfaces like slack-tuned toms. That is, unless you are strictly a snare drummer.
The phone book method is a good one, too.

I've been trying this ever since I saw the thread, and I have to say that there's instant results. Not phenomenal, of course, that takes time... but its an excellent way to keep your arms in shape.
...well, that, and lifting dumbbells.
