View Full Version : Revitalizing My 70's Supra

I picked up a sweet deal on eBay on a 6.5x14 Supra...mid-70's model. It's a little rough but I wanted something I could give a little TLC to. It's got moderate pitting but I think the chrome is salvageable - at least I'd like to try. The hoops are dented and dinged...but are the originals and I'd like to try and restore them, if I can. I don't see any rust anywhere but I haven't given it a full-cavity search, yet. The throwoff is in perfect shape and is smooth as butter.
I know there are threads on this but I searched for a while and couldn't find them - what are my basic steps for restoring this sweet old girl?
I'll post pics later tonight, if that'll help.

Well, mine as well scrap the whole thread. I came home, looked down at it, and after 2 seconds I realized the shell was bent on one side. It looks like someone smooshed one of the lugs inward a bit...pushing the shell out of round on the resonant side.
Maybe it was an honest mistake, maybe it was a deceptive description. In the listing it mentioned a "small ding, (see pics)" but that's it. I filed a PayPal claim and intend to get my money back.
So, nevermind! Thanks anyhow!

It sucks but we'll get our moulah back. We already escalated the claim to PayPal and we're crossing our fingers that they'll side with us if the seller refuses a refund. We've had eBay screw us pretty bad in the past on some bogus Ludwigs and they sided w/ the seller...but we'll see. Worst-case scenario - I resell the drum (honest listing) and make at least some of the money back.
I was lazy this time. His feedback was good (perfect for the past 6 mo.) so I didn't dig too deep...and the listing was well done. He communicated well but danced around the issue w/ the drum...and now I know he was being intentionally deceptive.
Oh well, I'll learn eventually. :)

Well, my supra dreams are over, for now. Seller will give a full refund, we shipped the old battered girl back.
I nursed my wounds by picking up a 13"x7" Pork Pie Brass Patina the other night...and it's fantastic. I feel much better. :)

I got my refund for this today. But wait! There's more! In a final move of hilarity on the seller's part - they had the juevos to demand a 25% "re-stocking fee", in the form of a check, and also demanded that it be sent out *today*. All this after PayPal sided w/ us on the claim and refunded the entire amount.
It's too much...I'm still laughing.
