hi everyone. I'd like to ask if anyone knows about this, tried it or does it at will. I'm talking about a dragging of the finger(pointer or middle, dont know exactly) on a head(i think it might work better on coated ones) of a tom after hitting to produce a long "booowow" sound. jojo does it on a solo from his dvd,on a performance seen at a video on his profile in this site and also gavin harrison on a so called drum song, where he plays a whole rhythmic composition by himself.
the question is, how can this be performed correctly?? drums that have a lot of sustain are necessary? can it be done on every drum?? anything will be most helpful. thanks

Use a sensitive (single ply) coated head and tune it to a resonant pitch. Moisten your middle finger and push it from the edge of the head towards the middle. Support the finger with your thumb. Tapping the head before the push usually helps. The trickiest part is to learn to use the right amount of moisture and pressure.
The same technique can be applied to a tambourine to create a smooth sounding tremolo.

This advice is correct . It comes from the original source; "The Kamasutra of Drums".
