So it's been forever since I last posted any stuff of mine. My last band as some of you guys may remember (the tunguska event) imploded due to some artistic differences.

Anyway, been throwing some more energetic stuff together with my new band die! chihuahua die!. It's a sort of punk/garage/rocknroll sort of vibe. Most fun i've had in a band, ever.

The playing is pretty straight up solid stuff. Nothing fancy. The tracks on the myspace were recorded by me and the guitarist at my house. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, i'm only just getting into this recording business and it was our first major project. The tracks are bit inconsistant, quality wise, but we're still working out the kinks.

Have a listen & let me know what you think.

Man, great stuff!
Really catchy, especially "HappySong".

I think an investment in higher quality recording equipment is in order.

I really liked your stuff.

You play very well on the songs. I especially liked the displaced snare / hat action in Brian Maiden!!!

thanks guys, much appreciated. Yeah, the recording's a little ropey, but it kinda captures the diy vibe we're going for.

I like the sound of the recording; it's a bit raw. It fits the vibe of the band. I rarely like that modern, overproduced recording sound so many modern bands are going for at the moment.

Cool band. I like your stuff.

Cheers oz. Yeah, i agree, too many records with that over produced, over quantised feel. Too much clarity. It's like the 80's all over again.

Tasty playing. For the most part, I really like the sound of your drums. Hi-hats sound REALLY nice. The music is sick, too. It sounds like you guys all really know what you're doing.

Cheers fellas. The hats are 15" black label 2002's, my faves.

The drums were recorded with just 2 overheads, kick and snare mic, hence why toms are so low in the mix. I'm currently dicking about with triggering and stuff. we'll see how that goes.

Duncan, what are you doing musically now? anything we could listen to?

Edit* ok, ignore that, just noticed and listened to the spiralworks stuff. it's great man, how are you putting it together?

A HA!!! See, I did a blind test. I said, "those hi-hats sound great" (which they REALLY do), hoping, "those better be paistes". And lo and behold... black label 2oo2s.

I'll speak to you in a bit more depth on MSN sometime Tom, but it's really just a few layered sounds that are improvised over each other. No great compositional depth from me; I can't stand that kind of stuff, so I just sat down and played around in a decent studio at college and those were the results. The two 'named' tracks anyway. There's a bit more to it than that, but not a lot more.

Oh, and as far as your recording approach goes - that's the way I always suggest. It's just simple and it works. No need for anything complicated!

I always love what you do within a genre of music that you help me warm up to. I think like the other band, this one has loads of potential. You play great again, and as usual your promotional stuff /the Batman thing etc/ is really funny.

Good luck with this band.

youenjoy00myself - Good ears man, good ears.

MFB - Sounds good. I much prefer music like that being composed that way, for me when it's completely methodical and refined all sense of passion is lost.

Mr P - If we weren't broke, we would. You all know theres no money in this music game :)

matt - Matt, thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate you taking the time to get into it. Sadly, i can't take credit for the batman/skeletor hilarity though, lifted them from a website.

cheers

We've got a few more songs recorded, i'll try and upload them at some point .
& more good news, a radio 1 DJ contacted me yesterday asking me for a demo. hah!

Sounds great man, reminds me of real punk music. Not this new bubble gum punk crap that keeps popping up all over the place.

Hey guys... So my mate asked me to jam out one of our songs after a few beers... Of course i didn't notice he had his phone out and he uploaded the video to the 'tube...

it's pretty straight like i described before, just some rock playing. but whatever, there's some mistakes and all the usual crap. oh and the sound quality rubbish.

it sounds weird out of context, but i think we're recording this song soon, so i'll keep you posted.

Sounds sweet! I was really diggin it. I can hear a few different influences in it. And I also liked the sound of the recording too. It fit well with the style of music.

BTW I love the batman picture, you need to send me a jpeg of it or something
